Why is Wrestling’s Worst Nightmare Coming to the DREAMS Project?

Wrestling has always been known for its colorful and strong-willed athletes. Men and women who seem to transcend definition, forging ahead by their own rules, and not worrying about the consequences. On September 23 in Birdsboro, PA, two of those men will go head to head in the main event of the first ever event for the DREAMS Project. But why?

Originally the main event for the evening was to be a Teacher versus Student contest between King Kaluha and the main he had a big hand in training, the “King of Old School” Steve Corino. But just hours before that match was to be announced, manager Rob Dimension dropped the bombshell that “The Franchise” Shane Douglas would be competing for DREAMS and demanded to be part of the main event. Dimension, who is a longtime friend (and sometime thorn in the side) of Corino (in fact the two host a weekly podcast entitled “Extreme Odd Couple” available on iTunes), surprised his pal by declaring his allegiance to Douglas (who is known to have an EXTREMEly contentious relationship with Corino).

DREAMS Project producer Curt Lemon was charged with finding an opponent for Douglas, an opponent who had not only the physical stature to go toe to toe with the former NWA and ECW World champion, but one who would have no reluctance in engaging in a war of words with “The Franchise”. “Wrestling’s Worst Nightmare”, “Mr. Wrestling” Kevin Steen, the current Ring of Honor (ROH) World champion, fit that description to a tee. Is it just a coincidence that Steen and Corino have a long history of causing havoc (along with “Zombie Princess” Jimmy Jacobs) in ROH? Kevin Steen has been on a mission to tear down ROH from the inside since his return to the promotion. A promotion that he is the face of! What in the world will he try to do to the DREAMS Project?! Aside from the monumental task of having to face Douglas, will Steen have to contend with other ROH wrestlers such as Delirious and Grizzly Redwood, who clearly have no love for the man trying to bring down their home company? By bringing in a ticking time bomb like Kevin Steen, Mr. Lemon may have sealed the fate of the DREAMS Project before the first event.

As wild and unpredictable as Steen is, Douglas is just as volatile, and has a much longer track record of doing whatever it takes to advance. From throwing down the NWA World Heavyweight title (and telling all of the vaunted former titleholders to kiss his rear end in the process) to publicly challenging the champions of other promotions, Shane Douglas is no stranger to controversy. His newfound alliance with Dimension is intriguing, as Rob has indicated that he has a plan that will shape the DREAMS Project forever. What do these veterans have up their sleeve for September 23?

The one thing that is known to us is that those who miss out on seeing this first-ever matchup between two of wrestling’s finest, will be sorry. Tickets are available through PayPal now at DREAMSProWrestling@GMail.com or with cash, Visa, or MasterCard the night of the event.
